(Syllabus.)
1. Witnesses — Prosecution for Specific Sale of Intoxicating Liquor — Improper Impeachment of Defendant and His Witnesses by Testimony as to Their Reputation as Bootleggers. Where a defendant is charged with a specific sale of intoxicating liquor, it is improper to permit the state to introduce evidence that defendant's reputation is that of a "notorious bootlegger." The same rule applies as to a material witness who has testified for defendant. 2. Same — Impeachment Should Be as to Reputation for Truth and Veracity. The impeachment of a witness should be as to his credibility, his reputation for truth and veracity, rather than to his moral character.
