Pearl A. Smith, Indi v. dually and Administratrix of Estate of Edward C. Smith, Deceased, Appellant,

FRATERNAL BENEFICIARY ASSOCIATIONS, § 48 — validity of change of beneficiary. Statute, concerning beneficiaries under certificates issued by fraternal benefit societies, did not preclude insured under death benefit certificate issued by defendant labor union from changing beneficiary prior to adoption by defendant of by-laws respecting changes of beneficiaries; hence, change of beneficiary made by insured, with defendant's consent, prior to adoption of by-laws covering that subject was valid although such change was not made in manner prescribed by subsequently adopted by-laws (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1947, ch. 73, par. 898; Jones Ill. Stats. Ann. 66.961).
