BE it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of Manipur in the Twenty-third year of the Republic of India as follows :— 1. (1). This Act-vg"‘,,ay be called the Salaries and Allowances of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly (Manipur) Act, 1972. (2) Tt shall be deemed to have come into 0० on the twentieth day of March, 1972, 2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires— (@) “Assembly” means the Legislative Assembly of Manipur; (b) “Deputy Speaker” means the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly; (€) “Member” means member of the Assembly not being the Chief Minister or a Minister ; (d) <«Speaker’® means the Speaker of the Assembly; and (¢) 'words and expression not defined berein and defined in the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur) Act, 1972 shall have the meaning respectively assigned to them in that Act. The Speaker shall be paid such saiary, conveyance allowance, entertainment allowance and travelling and daily allowances and shall be entitled to such amenities regarding residence, motor-car and . repayable advance for purchase of motor-car as are provided for a Minister other than the Chief Minister, Minister of State and Deputy Minister under the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur) Act, 1972. 4. 'The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker shall not practise any profession or engage in any trade or receive any money for employment other than their duties as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, as the case may be. ; . ः 5. The Deputy Speaker shall be paid such salary conveyance allowance, entertaipment allowance, travelling and daily allowances and shall be entitled to such amenities regarding residence and motor car for a Minister of State under the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur) Act, 1972 and rules made therevnder. : 6. The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker and the members of their families shal! be entitled free of charge to accommodation in hospitals maintained by the Government and also to medical treatment in accor- dance with the Medical Attendance Rules, as amended from time to time, applicable to a Class I Officer serving in connection with the State of Manipur. .. : 7. The Speaker and the Deputy Speaker shall not be entitled to receive any sum- out of funds provided by the Assembly by way of salary and allowances to members thereof. 8. The date on which any person became or ceased to be Speaker or Deputy Speaker shall be published in the Official Gazette and any such notification shall be conclusive evidence of the fact that he became, or ceased to be, the Speaker or Deputy Speaker, as the case may be, on that date for all the purposes of this Act. 9. There may be paid to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker by way of repayable advance such sum of money as may be payable to a Minister under the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Manipur) Act, 1972 and rules made thereunder for the purchase of Motor Car in order that he may be able to discharge conveniently and efficiently the duties of his office. 10. (1) The State Government may, by notification in the official . gazette, make rules for carrying out the purposes of this Act.
) Every rule made under this Act shail be laid as soon as may be after it is made, before the Legislative Assembly while it is in session for a tota] period of not less than fourteen days which may be comprised in one session or in two or more suc~ cessive sessions and if before the expiry of the session in which it is so laid or the sessions aforesaid, the Assembly makes any modification in the rule or decides that the rule should not be made, the rule shali thereafter have effect only in such modified form or bz of no effect, as the case may be, so however, that any such modification or annulment shall be without prejudice to the validity of anything praviously done under that rule. 11, The Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speakers (Salaries and Allowances) Act, 1964 is hereby repealed.
