IT IS timmaY enacted in the. Twenty-ninth Year of the Republic of India,

CHAPTER 1
PRELIMINARY
1 This Act may be called the Uttar Pradesh Rural Local Self-Gosern- Short title.

'AMENDMENT OF THE UTTAR PRADESH KSHETTRA SAMITIS AND
. ZILA PARISHADS ADHINIYAM, 1961
La section 9 of the Uttar Pradesh Kshettra Samitis and Zila Parishads
Adhiniyarn, 1961, hereinafter in this Chapter referred to as the principal Act,—
ry'L (a) in sub-section (1), the provisos shall be omitted and shall be
'deemed to hive, been omitted with effect from July 15, 1978 ;
(5) r) • s ab .s ecti on (2), the following sub-section shall be substituted
and shall be deemed to have been substituted with effect from October 25,
. 1978, namely :—
where the office of the Pramukh is vacant—
(n) the senior Up-Pramukh shall discharge the functions
of the Pramukh till the Pramukh is elected ;
(5) and if the office of senior Up-Pramukh is also vacant,
the junior Up-Pramukh shall discharge the functions of the
Pramukh till the Pramukh or the senior Up-Pramukh is elec-
ted ;j

(c) and if the offices of both, the senior and junior Up-Pra-
mulths also are vacant the District Magistrate may, by order,
make such arrangements as he thinks fit for the discharge of
the functions of the Pramukh, till the Pramukh, senior Up-
Pramukh or Junior Up-Pramukh is elected."
3. In section 10 of the principal Act, after sub-section (2), the following Amendment of
iub-section shall be inserted and shall be deemed to have been inserted with Section 10::,
,effect from October 25, 1978, namely :—
When the term of a Kshettra Samiti has expired then until
the reconstitution thereof, such person as the District Magistrate may
appoint in this behalf shall exercise, perform and discharge all powers,
Functions and duties of the Kshettra Samiti

Committees and shall be deemed to be such Ksllettra Samiti, Pramukb
or Committee for all purposes."

5. (1) The Uttar Pradesh Rural Local Self-Government Laws (Amendb
meat) Ordinances, 1978 and the Uttar Pradesh Kshettra Samitis and Zila
shads (Second Amendment) Ordinance, 1978 are hereby repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken uerg
the Acts referred to in Chapters II and Ill as amended by the aforesaid Orciv
nances, shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the correspondM
provisions of the said Acts as amended by this Act as if the Provisions of ithis
Act were in force at all material times.
