OFFICE OF COUNCILLORS) ACT, 1978*
(Act 9 of 1978)
An Act to provzde fol the further extenszon of the term of offzce of the counczllors of munzczpalztzes other than the Changanachrrry and Tzrur Munzczpalztzes. Preamble.-WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the further
extension of the term of office of the councillors of municipalities other than the Changanacherry and Tirur Municil-'ahties,
BE it enacted in the Twenty-ninth Year·of the Republic of Jr.dia as follows:-
! Short tttle a11d commencem•nt.-(I) This Art may be nlled the Kerala Municipal Councils (Extf ns1on of term of Office of Councillors) Act, 1978;
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 31st day of January, 1978.
2 Extenszon of term of off'zce of manzczpal counczllors.-Nothw1thstanding anything cr•ntamed in the Kerala MunlCipahtif'S Act, l9b0 (14 of 1961), the term of office of the councillors of all the mumcipahties constituted under the said Act, other than the Changanacheny and Tirur Mumci- palities, wh1ch expire· on the lst day of February, 1978, shall extend upto noon on the lst day of June, 1978.
3. Repeal and savzng.-(I) The Kerala Municipal Councils (Extension of Term of Office of Counc11lo~s) Ordinance, 1978 ( 5 of 1978), is hereby repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anythmg done or any action taken under the said Ordinance shall be deemed to have been done or taken under th1s Act.
