THE DIBRUGARH UNIVERSITY (FIRST AMENDMENT)
ACT, 1972

Act further to am end the D ibrugarh U n iversity Act, 1965.
Preamble. Whereas it is expedient to amend the Dibrugarh Assam Act University Act, 1965, hereinafter called the principal °*'Wbf. Act, in the manner hereinafter appearing ;
It is hereby enacted in Twenty-third year of the Republic of India as follows:—

(2) It shall come into force at once. Amend- 2. in Section 15 of the principal Act,— ment of Sec-

(1) in sub-section (1),
(i) after clause (xx), the following shall bt inserted as clause (xxi), namely:—
" (xxi) (a)—three Representatives to be elected by the Post-Graduate students from amongst themselves:
Provided that a student to be so elected must have been a student of the University for at least one year prior to his election:
Provided further that no student who has taken more than one year in excess of the period prescri- bed for the course of which he is a student would be eligible .for such election.
. ' ' ' (b) one representative to be elected by the Law students of the University from amongst themselves:
Provided that a student to be so elected must have been a student of the University for at least one year

(c) two Post-Graduate students to be nominated by tne Vice-Chancellor A student who has demonstra- ted bis academic merit and proficiency in extm-curri- cular and co-curricular activities shall be preferred.
3. In Section 37 of the principal Act,t—
(1) in sub-section (2), in the proviso, the punctuation full-stop ( . ) shall be substituted by the punctuation semi-colon ( ; ), and the following shall be inserted as second proviso thereafter, namely:— < t

" Provided further that any member, elected or nominated under clause (xxi) of sub-section (1) of Section 15 shall hold office for a period of one year only from the date of his election or nomina- tion, as the case may be. He shall cease to be a member of the Court on his ceasing to be a student of the University."
(2) after sub-section (3), the following shill be inserted as sub-section (4), namely:—
" (4) With the approval of the Court, the Vice- Chancellor may remove a member, elected under sub-clauses (a) and (b) of clause (xxi) oi sub- section (1) of Section 15, if he does not fulfil the conditions laid down in the proviso therein,"

(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the Ordinance as repealed • shall be deemed to have been done or taken under this Act as if this Act had commenced on the eighteenth day of January, 1972 (date of promulga- tion of the Ordinance).
