Bihar Special Security Group (Amendment) Act, 2017
AN
ACT
To amend the Bihar Special Security Group Act, 2000 (Bihar Act 8, 2000).
Whereas, with a view to provide adequate security to the Chief Minister, Ex-Chief Ministers and immediate family members of the Chief Minister, Special Security Group is provided under the provision of Bihar Special Security Group Act, 2000; and
Whereas, due to creation of 531 posts in the Special Security Group, for effective administrative control, there is a need for an amendment in the present provisions. Whereas, the present provisions of appointment to the posts of Commandant and Dy.Commandants by the State government in the Bihar Special Security Group Act, 2000 is not

adequate, considering latest challenges in the security scenario and in view of the increase in the size of the Group.
Now, therefore, it is necessary to amend the Bihar Special Security Group Act, 2000 (Bihar Act 8 of 2000).
Be it enacted by the legislature of the State of Bihar in the Sixty eighth year of the Republic of India as follows :-
1. Short title, extent and commencement.— (1) This Act may be called The Bihar Special Security Group (Amendment) Act, 2017.
(2) It shall extend to the whole of the State of Bihar.
(3) It shall come into force with immediate effect.
2. Amendment in section-5 of the Bihar Act 8, 2000.— Subsection (2) and (3) of section-5 of Bihar Special Security Group Act, 2000 shall be substituted by the following respectively :-
" (2) State Government shall nominate Inspector General of Police (Security), Special Branch as the Head of Special Security Group."
" (3) Inspector General of Police (Security), Special Branch shall, in the discharge of his duties under this Act, be assisted by one Deputy Inspector General of Police (Security), Special Branch, one Commandant, Deputy Commandants and Assistant Commandants as may be appointed by the State Government."
