to ame nd the Ass am Liq uor Pro hibition Ac t, 1952. Preamble. Wherea s it is exp edient to amend fu rthe r the Assam Liq uor Pro hib itio n Act, 1952 (Assam Act I of 1953), he re inaf ter called the Princi pal Act, for the purpose he re inaf ter appearing; -- It is he reb y enacted in the tw en ty-fo ur th ye ar of the Republic of In dia as follows :— Sho rt title, i. (1) This Act ma y be called the Assam commence- Liq uor Pro hib itio n (Amendment) Act, 1973. me nt.
(2) It sha ll hav e the like ex tent as the Pr inc ipa l Act.
(3) It sha ll come into force on the Fir st day of Apri l, 1973.
Amendment 2. For sub-sec tions (2) and (7) of sect ion 2 of section 2 of the princi pal Act, the following sha ll be i r0̂ss1a9" 3Act' subs titu ted , name ly :—
2. (2) "S tat e Pro hib itio n Coun cil" means the body of a non -off icia l res idents of the Sta te as may be con stit uted by the Sta te Government by not ificatio n in the offic ial Gazette.
2. (7) "Proh ibi tion Off icer" mea ns a pers on appointed under s ection 17 (3) of the Act. Amendm ent

3. For section 17 of the Pr inc ipa l Act, the following sha ll be sub stit uted, nam el y:— ♦
17. (1) The State Government may, by not ificatio n in the offic ial Gaze tte, con stitute for the Sta te and for such per iod as it may deem fit, a Sta te Pro hib itio n Council consisting of two or more non-off icia l res ide nts of the Sta te as may be prescr ibed by the Sta te Gov ern- ment. The Sta te Government may also, by like notification, dissolve or reconstit ute any such Council.

(2) The State Pro hib itio n Coun cil may, by not ificatio n in the official Gazette, con stit ute for a distr ict or pa rt th er e- of and for such per iod as it may deem fit, Prohibi tion Com mittees consisting of two or more non -off icia l res idents of the dis tric t. The Sta te Pro hib itio n Council ma y also, by like not ifica tion , disso lve or recons - ti tu te such pro hib itio n Committees.
(3) For the purp oses of Sections 10 and 11 of the Act, the Sta te Government may, by not ificatio n in th e official Gaze tte, app oint any memb er of a Pro hib itio n Com mittee by virtu e of office or otherw ise to be a Proh i- bition Officer and the rel ati on of officers so app ointed to the Sta te Pro hib itio n Council sha ll be such as ma y be prescribed.
(4) The dut ies to be per forme d by the Sta te Prohibi tion Council and Pr o- hib itio n Committees and the relation between the Council and the Com- mittee s and the rel ati on of such Com mittees to the Council sha ll be such as ma y be pres crib ed.
