An Act to provide for the removal of doubts as to the payment of interest on arrears of land-revenue.

Whereas it is expedient to provide for the removal of any doubts as to the liability to pay interest on arrears of land-revenue;

It is hereby enacted as follows:-

Section 1. Short title

1. Short title.- This Act may be called the Bengal Land-Revenue (Interest) Act, 1935.

Section 2. Interest on arrears of revenue

2. Interest on arrears of revenue.- (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law, interest shall be payable, and shall be deemed with effect from the 19th day or January, 1933, to have been payable, to all arrears of land-revenue, and such interest shall be recoverable as a public demand.

(2) All such interest shall,-

(a) in respect of the period from the 19th day of January, 1933, up to the commencement of this Act, be deemed to have been payable at the rate of seven and a half per centum per annum,

(b) in respect of any period after the commencement of this Act, be payable at such rate not exceeding 2[six and a quarter] per centum per annum as the 3[State Government] may, by notification in the 4[Official Gazette], determine.

3 The words "Provincial Government" were originally substituted for the words "Local Government" by para. 4(1) of the Government of India (Adaptation or Indian Laws) Order, 1937. And thereafter the word "State" was substituted for the word "Provincial" by para. 1(1) of the Adaptation or Laws Order, 1950.

4 The words within square ??? were substituted for the words "Calcutta Gazatte" by para 1(1) of the Government of India (Adaptation of Indian Laws) Order, 1937.
