Seeking a direction to the first respondent to have the task of determination of antiquities of idols, the petitioner has come up with this Criminal Original Petition. 2.According to the petitioner, pursuant to the requests made by the CIO/Additional Superintendent of Police, the Appeal Committee on Antiquity headed by the first respondent is going to visit Kumbakonam on 10.10.2018 and 11.10.2018, for the purpose of determination of antiquities of the idols, as per Section 24 of the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972. Therefore, the petitioner prayed for appropriate direction to the first respondent, to assess the antiquities of the following idols:
(i)191 of the total 275 idols in the Panthanallur Pasubatheeswarar Temple make shift idol strong room.
(ii)All the 46 idols in the make shift idol strong room of Thanjai Periyakoil.
(iii)14 stolen idols kept in the Government Icon Centre, Kumbakonam.
(iv)19 idols kept in the make shift idol strong room of Thanjai Punnainallur Mariyamman Koil.
(v)All the idols kept in the Government Icon Centre, Thiruvarur.
(vi)245 stone idols and other artifacts including huge stone pillars belonging to Hindu Temples in Tamil Nadu seized pursuant to execution of warrants in Chennai and other places belonging to the accused Ranveer Shah and Kiran Rao. 3.Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Standing Counsel appearing for the respondents, who has no objection in granting such relief to the respondents. 4.Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and having regard to the submissions made by the learned counsel on either side, this Criminal Original Petition is disposed of, with a direction to the first respondent to have the assessment and complete the same relating to antiquities of the idols as suggested by the Idol Wing on or before 24.10.2018.
