ORDER
The 19th July, 2024 No. S.O. 30/P.A.9/1994/S.29-A/2024.- Whereas as per section 15 of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 (Punjab Act No. 9 of 1994), the term of office of a Gram Panchayat is five years from the date of its first meeting; Whereas Article 243-E of the Constitution of India mandates that every Panchayat shall continue for five years from the date of its first meeting; and Whereas the State Government considers it necessary in public interest to smoothly carry on the work of the panchayats in the State during the intervening period.
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 29-A of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, and all other powers enabling him in this behalf, the Governor of Punjab, in terms of Article 243-E of the Constitution of India and section 15 of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, is pleased to disslove the Gram Panchayats, who, after the issuance of notification No. S.0.25/P.A.9/1994/S.29-A/2024, dated 29-04-2024, till the date of publication of this order, have completed their term of five years from the date of their first meeting, and to authorize the Director, Rural Development and Panchayats- cum-Special Secretary to appoint persons from amongst the Rural Development and Panchayats Department not below the rank of Assistant Engineers, Junior Engineers, Social Education and Panchayat Officer, Village Development Organizer and Panchayat Officer, subject to their availability in the respective Block, as the case may be. The appointed officer shall, upon dissolution of each such Gram Panchayat, perform the functions and exercise the powers of such Gram Panchayat, strictly in compliance with the statutory provisions, till the elected body assumes charge of office, in accordance with law.
