Preamble. WHEREAS it is expedient in the interest of public order to further amend the Assam Maintenance of As
Public Ord er Act , 1947, and to amend the Assam J~r;\9t7ct Maintenance of Publi c Ord er (Autonomous Districts ) . Act, 1953 and for the purpose and in the m mner Assam Act hereinafter appearing. ~Yl of
It is hereby enacted in the Nine teenth Year of
the R epu blic of India as follows:-
Short title; 1. (1) 1 his Act may be called the Assam Mainte- ext ent an d nance of Public O rder (Amendment) Ac t, 1968. commence-

If the State Governmen t considers it neces- sary or expedient in the public in terest or in the in terest of public safety or maint ena nce of public order that the use, possession or sal e of any official U niform, Indian or Foreign, or any dress so nearly resembling such U niform as to be calcula ted to deceive should be regulated, the Sta te Government m ay, by general or special order , direct tha t no person sh all without lawful authority usc, possess or sell such official U n iform or dress without a licen ce or permit from t he Dep uty Commissioner Or the
Subdivivional Officer , as the case may be, with in the ir respective jurisdiction."

130 In the following section shall be inserted, namely:-

If the State Government consider it necessary or expedient in t he public interest or in the in terest of public safety o r main tenance of public order that the use, poss ession or sale of any official Uniform, Indian or Foreign, or a ny dress so nearly resem bling such Uniform as - to b e calculated to deceive should be r egulated, the State Government may, by general or spe cial order, direct that no per- son shall without lawful authority use, possess or sell such official Uniform or dress without a lir.ence or p ermit from th e De put y C ommissioner or th e Subdivisiona l Officer, as the cas e may be, wi th in their respecti V~ j u risdiction. "
