An Act further to amend the Uttar Pradesh Technical University Act, 2000
It is hereby enacted in the Sixty-sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows-
Prefatory Note-Statement of Objects and Reasons.- Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, an eminent Scientist and 11th President of India has done pioneering work in the field of Science and Technology. A career scientist, he studies physics and aerospace engineering and was intimately involved in India's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts. He was a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna. To perpetuate the memory of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam so as to spread his ideals, philosophy, research work in the field of Aero-space science and to inspire the students of Technical Institutes it has been decided to amend the Uttar Pradesh Technical University Act, 2000 (U.P. Act No. 23 of 2000) to change the name of the Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.
The Uttar Pradesh Technical University (Amendment) Bill, 2015 is introduced accordingly.
Section 1. Short title
1. Short title.- This Act may be called the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (Amendment) Act, 2015.
Section 2. Amendment of Section 2 of U.P. Act No. 23 of 2000
2. Amendment of Section 2 of U.P. Act No. 23 of 2000.- In Section 2 of the Uttar Pradesh Technical University Act, 2000 hereinafter referred to as the principal Act, for clause (h) the following clause shall be substituted, namely-
"(h) ‘University’ means Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow established under Section 3.".
Section 3. Amendment of Section 3
3. Amendment of Section 3.- In Section 3 of the principal Act, after sub-section (2) the following sub-section shall be inserted, namely-
"(2-A) On and from the commencement of the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (Amendment) Act, 2015, the Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, established under this Act, shall be called Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.".
Section 4. Insertion of new Section 40-B
4. Insertion of new Section 40-B.- After Section 40-A of the principal Act, the following section shall be inserted, namely-
"40-B. With effect from the date of commencement of the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (Amendment) Act, 2015 any reference to the Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow in any rules, statutes, regulations, ordinances and statutory instruments of any law for the time being in force or in any document or proceedings shall be construed as a reference to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.".
