An Act to Amend the Provincial small cause Courts Act, 1887 in its application to the State of Orissa.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Orissa in the Forty-eighth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-

Section 1. Short title

1. Short title.- This Act may be called the Provincial Small Cause Courts (Orissa Amendment) Act, 1997.

Section 2. Amendment of section-15

2. Amendment of section-15.- In the provincial Small Cause Courts Act, 1887, for sub-sections (2) and (3) of 9 of 1887 section 15, the following subjection shall be substituted, namely:-

"(2) Subject to the exceptions specified in that Schedule and to the provisions of any enactment for the time being in force, all suits of a civil nature of which the value does not exceed two thousand and five hundred rupees shall be cognizable, by a Court of Small Causes.".
