•THE ORISSA MUNICIPAL COUNCILS (POSTPONEMENT
OF ELECTIONS) ACT, 1983
Received the assent of the Governor on the 11th October~ 983 first published in an extraordinary issue of the Orissa Gazette dated the 11th October 1983. AN ACT TO PROV\DE FOR THE POSTPONEMENT OF ELECTIONS TO CERTAIN MUNICtPAL COUNCILS OF THE STATE.
BE it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Orissa In the Thirty.fourth Year
(2) · \t sha\I be deemed to have come into force with effect from the 30th day of May, 1983.
2. In this Act, unless the conteKt otherwise requires-
(a) "Municipal Act'' means the Oriiae Municipal Ac1, 1950; (b} "Municipal Council" means a Municipal Council coostituted under the Municipal Act and sha\I include a Notif\ed Area CouncU ~onstitU'ted thereunder;
(c) words and expressions used ln this Act shall have the same meaning aa assigned to them respectively, under the Municipal Acr. Orissa Act
2S of 1950.
3. Notwithstanding anvthing contained In the Orissa Municipal Councils (Postponement of Elections) Act, 1981 or the Oris~a Municipal Councils (Postpone- ~;1:11 ~;. ment of E\e?tions) (No. 2) Act, 1981 or the Municipal Act or in any rules or orders ~4i~s,8 1 ~;\, made or issued thereunder,-
(s) all proceedings or actions taken in furtherance of holding general elections for the reconstitution of the Municipal Councils specified in the Schedule are hereby cancelled; and
(b) the general elections for the recon•titution of the said Municipa\ Gouncils shall be held in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Act and the rules made thereunder on such date, not being later then the 31st March 1984 as may be fixed by the State Government end the election so held shall. for all purposes, be deemed to be a general electfon held under that Act.

(2) Notwithstanding such repeal of the said Ordinance anything done or any action taken thereunder shall be deemed to have been done or taken under this Act.
