THE GAUHATI UNIVERSITY (AMENDMENT) ACT,
1978.
An
Act
further to amend the Gauhati University A ct, 1947. 'Preamble. W hereas it is expedient fu rther amend the G auhati U niversity Act, 1947, hereinafter called the principal Act, in the m anner hereinafter appearing ;
It is hereby enacted in the Tw enty- n in th Year of the Republic of India as follows :— __ .
Short title 1. (1) This Act m ay be called the
and co- mmencement. G auhati U niversity (Amend- ment) Act, 1978.
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 27th day of Septem ber, 1978.
Amendment
of Section 2. In the principal Act, in Section 21,
2 1 of Assam in clause (g), —
Act XVJ
of 1947.
(i) in the first proviso, tow ards the end, the portion beginning w ith the w ords "No new Degree Colleges" and ending w ith the words "w ith in the S tate of As- sam " shall be substitu ted by the words "No new Pre-U ni- versity or Degree College shall be given perm ission or affilia- tion or no such college shall be given perm ission or affilia- tion by the U niversity to in tro - duce new subject o r - faculty w ithout prior concurrence of the respective Governm ent of Assam. M anipur or A runachal Pradesh" ;

(ii) the second proviso shall be substitu ted by the following, n a m e ly :—
"Provided fu rth er tha t the respective S tate G overnm ent of Assam, M anipur or A runachal Pradesh m ay at any tim e vest the existing power of the Executive Council of the U niversity of conducting Pre-U niversity Exam ination in the Board of Secondary Education, if any, of the S tate with effect from such date as m ay be notified by the S tate Governm ent concerned."
Repeal and
S aving. 3. (1) The G auhati U niversity (Am-endment) Ordinance, 1978 (Assam Ordinance No II of
1978) is hereby repealed.
(2) N otw ithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the principal Act, as amended by the said O rdi- nance shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the principal Act, as amended by this Act.
