Tamil nadu act 029 of 1989 : Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendment) Act, 1989

Section 1. Short title, extent and commencement

PART I

Preliminary

1. Short title, extent and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Tamil Nadu Universities Laws (Amendment) Act, 1989.

(2) It shall come in to, force at once.

Section 2. Omission of Section 5-A

PART II

Amendment to the Madras University Act, 1923

2. Omission of Section 5-A.- Section 5-A of the Madras University Act, 1523 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), shall be omitted.

Section 3. Amendment of Section 14

3. Amendment of Section 14.- In section 14 of the principal Act, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression "and such member shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;

Section 4. Amendment of section 18

4. Amendment of section 18.- In section 18 of the principal Act, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression and such members shall be eligible Tor election or nomination for not more than another period of three years shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;

(c) the Explanation shall be omitted.

Section 5. Amendment of section 23

5. Amendment of section 23.- In section 23 of tits principal Act, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or ??? for not more than another period or three years" shall be ???;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;

(c) the Explanation shall be omitted.

Section 6. Amendment of section 33

PART III

Amendment to the ??? University Act, 1928

6. Amendment of section 33.- In the ??? University Act, 1928 (hereinafter referred to as the ??? Act), in sub-section (1) of section 33, for the portion beginning with the words "shall, except in the case of ex-officio member." and ending with the expression "21st December, 1981", the following shall be substituted, namely:-

"shall except in the case of ex-officio members hold office upto the date of the next reconstitution".

Section 7. Amendment of section 33-A

7. Amendment of section 33-A.- Section 33-A of the principal Act shall be omitted.

Section 8. Amendment of section 15

Amendment to the Madurai-Kamaraj University Act, 1965

8. Amendment of section 15.- In the Madurai-Kamaraj University Act, 1965 (Tamil Nadu Act 33 of 15) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in section 15, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;

(c) the Explanation shall be omitted.

Section 9. Amendment of section 19

9. Amendment of section 19.- In section 19 or the principal Act, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;

(c) the Explanation shall be omitted.

Section 10. Amendment of section 24

10. Amendment of section 24.- In section 24 of the principal Act, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;.

(c) the Explanation shall be omitted.

Section 11. Amendment of section 24-A

11. Amendment of section 24-A- Section 24-A of the principal Act shall be omitted.

Section 12. Amendment of section 17

PART V

Amendments to the Anna University Act, 1978

12. Amendment of section 17.- In the Anna University Act, 1978 (Tamil Nadu Act 30 of 1978) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act) in section 17, in sub-section (4),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall, be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another term of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the second proviso and the Explanation thereunder shall be omitted.

Section 13. Omission of section 17-A

13. Omission of section 17-A.- Section 17-A of the principal Act shall be omitted.

Section 14. Amendment of Schedule II

14. Amendment of Schedule II.- In the principal Act, in Schedule II, in Statute 9, in clause (3), the portion beginning with the expression "and such members" and ending with the expression "21st December, 1981" shall be omitted.

Section 15. Omission of section 7

Amendments to the Bharathiar University Act, 1978

15. Omission of section 7.- In the Bharathiar University Act, 1981 (Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1982) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), section 7 shall be omitted.

Section 16. Amendment of section 20

16. Amendment of section 20.- In section 20 of the principal Act, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall-be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;

Section 17. Amendment of section 23

17. Amendment of section 23.- In section 23 of the principal Act, in sub-section (2), in clause (c),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted;

Section 18. Amendment of section 24

18. Amendment of section 24.- In section 24 of the principal Act, in clause (e),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.

Section 19. Omission of section 7

PART VII

Amendments to the Bharathiar University Act, 1978

19. Omission of section 7.- In the Bharathidasan University Act, 1981 (Tamil Nadu Act 2 of 1982) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), section 7 shall be omitted.

Section 20. Amendment of section 20

20. Amendment of section 20.- In section 20 of the principal Act, in clause (b),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be, omitted.

Section 21. Amendment of section 23

21. Amendment of section 23.- In section 23 of the principal Act, in sub-section (2), in clause (c),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.

Section 22. Amendment of section 24

22. Amendment of section 24.- In section 24 of the principal Act, in clause (e),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination ??? of three years" ???

Section 23. Omission of section 7

PART VIII

Amendments to the Tamil University Act, 1982

23. Omission of section 7.- In the Tamil University Act, 1982 (Tamil Nadu Act 9 of 1982) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), section 7 shall be omitted.

Section 24. Amendment of section 18

24. Amendment of section 18.- In section 18 of the principal Act, in clause (c),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall omitted.

Section 25. Amendment of section 21

25. Amendment of section 21.- In section 21 of the principal Act, in clause (e),-

(a) the expression "and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years" shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.

Section 26. Omission of section 21

Amendments to the Mother Teresa Women's University Act, 1984

26. Omission of section 21.- In the Mother Teresa Women's University Act, 1984 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), section 7 shall be omitted.

Section 27. Amendment of section 20

27. Amendment of section 20.- In section 20 of the principal Act, in clause (c),-

(a) the expression and such members shall be eligible for nomination ??? than another period of three years shall be omitted:-

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.

Section 28. Amendment of section 23

28. Amendment of section 23.- In section 23 of the principal Act, in clause (e),-

(a) the expression and such members shall be eligible for nomination for not more than another period of three years shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.

Section 29. Omission of section 8

Amendments to the Alagappa University Act, 1985

29. Omission of section 8.- In the Alagappa University Act, 1985 (hereinafter referred for as the principal Act), section 3 shall be omitted.

Section 30. Amendment of section 21

30. Amendment of section 21.- In section ??? of the principal Act, in clause (c),-

(a) the expression and such members shall be eligible for election or ??? nation for not more than another period of three years shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.

Section 31. Amendment of section 24

31. Amendment of section 24.- In section 24 of the principal Act, in sub-section (2), in clause (d),-

(a) the expression and such members shall be eligible for nomination for not more than another period or three years shall be omitted:

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.

Section 32. Amendment of section 25

32. Amendment of section 25.- In section 25 of the principal Act, in clause (e),-

(a) the expression and such members shall be eligible for election or nomination for not more than another period of three years shall be omitted;

(b) the first proviso shall be omitted.
