ACT
further to amend the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973. IT isThEREBY enacted in the Thirty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows
1. (1) This Act may be called the Uttar Pradesh State Universities r (Amendment) A ct,1988.
(2) Section 3 shall be deemed to have come into force on January 1, 1988 sections 2 and 4 shall be deemed to have come into force with effect from January 15,1988 and the remaining provisions shall come into force at once.

2. In section 20 of the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act, 1973, here- inafter referred to as the principal Act, in sub-section (1) in clause (g) the following proviso shall be inserted, namely t—
"Provided that one of the persons so nominated shall be a person who is or has been a Judge of the Supreme Court or High Court".
3. In section 50 of the principal Act, — in sub-section (1-A), for the word and figures "December 31, 1987" the word and figures "December 31, 1990" shall be substituted, and
in sub-section (2), for the word and figures "December 31, 1987"
the word and figures "December 31,1990" shall be substituted.
4. With effect from the commencement of this section a person nominated as a member of the Executive Council under clause (g) of sub-section (1) of sec- tion 20 of the principal Act before such commencement shall cease tobe a member of such Executive Council.
5. (1) The Uttar Pradesh State Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 1988, is hereby repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the provisions of the principal Act as amended by the Ordinance, referred to in sub-section (1), shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of the principal Act as amended by this Act, as if the provisions of this Act were in force at all material times.
