lhtHERI' AS it is expedient to provide for the continuance, during a limited period, of licences
of the petition writers in the mergedterritories ; It is hereby enacted by the Logislature of the
State of Orissa in the Seventh Year of Republic of Inwa as follows :—
1. (l) This Act moy be called the Orissa MergedShon title, andTerritories' Petition Writers' Continuance of Licences
meat. Act, 1956.*
(2) It extends to the whole of the merged territories of the State of Orissa.
(3) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 1st July 1956.
2. In this Act unlessthere is anything repugnantDoanitjonB
in the subject or context—
(i) " petition writer " meansa person carryin g on his profession as such under the terms andconditions of a valid licenee in any of the merged territoriæ of the State of Orissa during the period from the 1st January 1948 to the 30th June 1951.
(ii) "prescribed" mems prescribed by rules made by the High Court under this Act.
3. A petition writer shall, subject to the pres- •cribedrulesbe entitled to continuehis professionae
pmfeesion. such for a period of five years from the commence- ment of this Act.
4. Thepetition writers shall be governed byPover of Eigh Coue.such rules as the High Court may from time to time
makemake asregardscontrol, discipline and conditions ofrulæ. their licences.
