Preamble

Holdings (Stay of Execution Proceedings) (1[Tamil Nadu] Amendment) Act, 1961*

An Act further to amend the Holdings (Stay or Execution Proceedings) Act, 1950, in its application to the Kanyakumari district.

Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Holdings (Stay of Execution Proceedings) Act, 1950 (Travancore-Cochin in Act VIII of 1950), in its application to the Kanyakumari district for the purpose hereinafter appearing;

Be it enacted in the Twelfth Year of the Republic of India as follows:-

Section 1. Short title and extent

1. Short title and extent.- (1) This Act may be called the Holdings (Stay of Execution Proceedings) (1[Tamil Nadu] Amendment) Act, 1961.

(2) It extends to the whole of the Kanyakumari district.

Section 2. Amendment of section 4, Travancore-Cochin Act VIII of 1950

2. Amendment of section 4, Travancore-Cochin Act VIII of 1950.- In section 4 of the Holding, (Stay of Execution Proceedings) Act, 1950 (Travancore-Cochin Act VIII of 1950), for the words "twelve years and six month", the words "*thirteen years and six months" shall be substituted.

* This period was subsequently extended from time to time by Tamil Nadu Acts 13 of 1963, 17 of 1965, 17 of 1967, ??? of 1969, ??? of 1971 and 25 of 1973. The last extension extension the period upto "Twenty-seven year and six months" was made by Tamil Nadu Act 31 of 1975.
