THE ,BENCAL ORDINANCES TEMPORARY.
ENACTMENT ACT, 1947.
[Passed by the Bengal Legislature.] [Assent of the Governor General was first published in-the Calcutta Gazette, `- Extraordinary, of the 16th March, 1947.]
An Act to enact temporarily the provisions of certain
Ordinances promulgated by the Governor of Bengal.
WHEREAS the Ordinances specified in the Schedule
.. which have been promulgated by the Governor of Bengal
26. Geo. under section 88 of the Government of India Act, 1935, are, V, c. 2. by virtue of clause (a) of sub-section(2) of that section,
temporary in their duration.,
AND WaillEAS it is expedient -to provide for' the tempo- rary enactment as in this Act mentioned of the provisions contained in those Ordinances;.
It is hereby enacted as follows :-
1. This Act may be called the Bengal Ordinances Temporary Enactment Act, 1947.
2. The provisions of each of the Ordinances specified in the Schedule shall have effect as if they had been enacted in an Act of the Provincial Legislature and shall con '-inue in operation for a period of six months from the date on which the said Ordinances by virtue of clause (a) of sub- section (2) of section 88 of the Government of India Act, 1935, cease ;to operate:
Provided that the Provincial Government may, by noti- fication in the Official Gazette, direct that the provisions of any of the Ordinances specified in the Schedule shall conti- nue in operation for a further period not exceeding six months if in the opinion of the Provincial Government it is necessary in the public interest so to do.
