Preamble- Whereas it is expedie nt to amend tire Prisons Act, Act 9 of 1894, here inaf ter called the prin cipal Act, in the *394. manner here inaf ter app ear ing ;
It is here by enac ted in the Eighteenth Year of the Repub lic of Ind ia as fo llows:—
Short titl e, 1. (1) This Act m ay be called the Prisons (Assam exte nt and Ame ndment) Act, 1967. commence ment.
(2) It extends to th e whole of the State o f Assam.
(3) It shall come into force a t once.
Amendm ent 2. In section 59 of the principal Act, for sub- of section 59 section (5), the following shal l be substi tuted, n am ely:— of Act 9 of ' 1894.
<e (5) for th e award of marks , the suspension or remission an d consequent shor tenin g of sentences, and the gra nt of leave or emergency release and determ inin g the condi tions on which a nd th e author ity by which the sentences may be suspended or rem itted and the p risoner may be granted leave or emergency release;”
