TERM OF OFFICE OF COUNCILLORS) ACT, 1979
(Act 7 of 1979)
An Act, to provide to·<' the further extension of the term of office of the councillors of municipalities tJther than the Changanacherry and Tirur Municipalities
Prc-amble.-WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the further extemion oft he tc1 m of office of the councillors of munic•palities other than the Changanach(l'ry and Tirur Municipal itics;
BE it enacted in the Thirtieth Year of the Republic of India as follow-;:-
!. Short title and commencement.-(!) This Act may be called the Kcrala Municipal Councils (Extension of Tenn of Offit e of Councillors) Act, 1979.
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into fmce on the 31st day of October, 1978.
2. Extension or term of office of municipal councillors.- Notwith~tanding anythmg contained in the Kcrala Municipalities Act, 19ii0 ( 14 of 1961), the term of office of the cotmrillors of all the muni· cipalities constituted under the said Act, other than the Chanl_{anc:l• cherry a1d Tirur Munic•palitJl!s, wh1ch expires on th<: 1st d.ty of November, 1978, shall extend upto noon on the lst day of October,
1979.
3. Repeal and saving.-( I) The Kerala Municipal Co:mcils ([xtension of Term of Office ofCouncJIIors) Ordinance, 1978 (21 of 1978), is hereby repealed.
('2) Notwithc;tanding such repeal, any1hin~ done or any action taken under the said Ol(linance shall be dr:cmcd to have been dolae or taken under thii Act.
