THE ASSAM MUNICIPAL (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1996
AN
ACT
further to amend the Assam Municipal Act, 1956.
Preamble. Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Assam Municipal Act, 1956, hereinafter referred to as the principal Act, in conformity with the provisionss
o f the Constitution (Seventy-fourth ° Amendment) Act, 1992, in the manner herein after appearing;
It is hereby enacted in the Forty-seventh Year o f the Republic of India as follows :-
Short title, 1. (1) This Act may be called the Assam M unicipal extent and (Amendment) Act, 1996.

m e n t - (2) It shall have the like extent as the principal Act.
(3) It shall come into force at once.
Amendment 2. In the principal Act, in section 15, in clause (ix), in the
of first paragraph, for full stop (.) at the end, colon (:) shall be section 15. substituted and there after the following provision shall be inserted, namely :-
"Provided that no person shall be disqualified on the ground that he is less than 25 years of age, if he has attained the age of 21 years".
Repeal and 3. (1) The Assam M unicipal (Amendment) Assam

(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the Ordinance so repealed shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of this Act.
