TH E ASSAM MUNICIPAL (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1959

further to amend the Assam Municipal Act, 1956
Preamble.—Whereas it js expedient further to amend the Assam Municipal Act, 1956 (Assam Act XV of 1957), hereifaafter referred to as the principal Act, in the manner hereinafter appearing ;
I t is hereby enacted in the Tenth Year of the Republic of India as follows:—
1. Short title, extent and commencement.—(1) This Act, may be called the Assam Municipal (Amendment) Act, 1959.
(2) I t shall have the like extent as the principal Act. (3) I t shall come into force a t once. 2. Amendment of section 37 of Assam Act XV of 1957.—
In sub-section (1) of section 37 of the principal Act,— (1) the following shall be added at the end as the first proviso and the
existing proviso shall be treated as the second proviso, namely.—
“ Provided that the Chairman shall not exercise any power which shall be exercised under the rules by the Executive Officer where such officer is appointed under section 53 of the Act.”
(2) in the second proviso the word “also” shall be inserted between the words “ Provided” and “ tha t” .
