fur ther to amend the Assam Panchayat Act, 1994.
Preamble W hereas it is expedie nt furth er to amend the Assam Panchaya t Act, 1994, her einafter refe rred to as the principal Act, in the m anner h erein after appearing ; It is hereby en acte d in the Fifty-fi rst Year o f the Republic of India as foll ows :-
Short title, extent and commence- ment.
(1) Th is Ac t ma y be ca lle d the As sam Pa nc ha ya t (Amendmen t) Act, 2000.
(2) It shal l ha ve the like ex tent as the principal Act.
(3) It shall c ome into force at once.
A m en dm en t 2. In the princi pal Act, in sect ion 5, in sub -sectio n (1), for
