HOLDINGS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1993

pr-amWe Whereas it is necessa ry to amend the Assam Fixatio n of Ceiling on Land Holdings Act, 1956 herei nafte r called the prin cipal Act, in the manne r he rei nafte r ap pe ar ing;
It is hereb y enac ted in the Fo rty -fo ur th Year of the Republic of India as follows :—

(2) It sha ll extend to the Dist ricts of (1) Goa l- para (2) Dhubr i (3) Ko kra jha r (4) Bongaigaon
(5) Barpe ta (6) Nalbari (7) Kamrup (8) Darrang
(9) Sonitpur (10) Lakhimpur (11) Dhemaji
(12) Nagaon (13) Morigaon (14) Sibsaga r (15) Jo r- ha t (16) Golagha t (17) Cachar (18) Kar img anj
(19) Hai laka ndi (20) Dib rug arh (21) Tinsukia in the St ate' of Assam.
(3) It sha ll come into force at once.
Amendment 2. In the prin cipal Act, in section 7,—
of Sec. 7 .f Assam Act i of 1957.. (a ) For sub- sect ion (6), the follow ing sha ll be substituted, na m ely:—
"(6) Withou t pre judice to any action under any oth er prov ision of this Act, the Sta te Govern- ment may, on its own motion or on application, if filed within a period of 1 (one) year from the

date of publication of the final statem ent under sub-section (4) or from the date on which the Assam Fixatio n of Ceil ing on Land Holdings (Amendment) Act, 1993 shall come into force, whichever is later, call for any record rela ting to any final statement and may pass such order or orders as it deems fit afte r giving the person or persons concerned an opportunity of being heard."
(b) In the princ ipal Act, in section 7, sub- section "6 (a)" shall be deleted.
