Be it enacted by the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in the 59th year of the Republic of India as follows:-
* As passed by the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembiy and assented to by the Governor on 26 May, 2008.

1. Short title and Commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Uttarakhand Panchayat Law (Amendment) Act, 2008.
(2) It shall come in to force at once.

2. Amendment of sub-section (3) and (4) of section 11A.- In section 11-A of the United Provinces Panchayat Raj Act, 1947 (as amended from time to time and as applicable to the State of Uttarakhand) (hereinafter referred to as Principal Act)-
"In place of words ‘not less than one third’ occurring in sub-section (3) and (4), the word ‘not less than one half’ shall be substituted."
3. Amendment of Clause (b) and (c) of sub-section 5 of section 12.- In section 12 of the Principal Act-
"In place of words ‘not less than one third’ occurring in clause (b) and (c) of sub-section (5), the word ‘not less than one half’ shall be substituted."

4. Amendment of sub-section (2) and (3) of section 6A, 7A, 18A and section 19A.- In section 6A, 7A. 18A and section 19A of the Uttar Pradesh Khestra Panchayat and Zila Panchayat Act, 1961 (as amended from time to time and as applicable to the State of Uttarakhand) the words "not less than one half" shall be substituted in place of words "not less than one third", occurring in sub-section (2) and (3).
