Indian Penal Code (Andhra Pradesh Amendment) Act, 1991*

An Act Further to Amend the Indian Penal Code, 1860 in its Application to the State of Andhra Pradesh.
Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Andhra Pradesh in the Forty-Second year of the Republic of India as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act my be called the Indian Penal Code (Andhra Pradesh Amendment) Act, 1991.
(2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette, appoint.
2. Substitution of new section for section 354.- In the Indian Penal Code, 1860, for section 354, (Central Act XLV of 1860) the following Section shall be substituted/namely:-
354. "Assault or Criminal force to woman with Intent to outrage her modesty.- Whoever assaults or uses criminal force to any woman intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will; thereby outrage her modesty shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than five years but which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine:
Provided that the Court may, for adequate and special reasons to be mentioned in the judgment, impose a sentence of imprisonment of either description for a term which may be less than five years, but which shall not be less than two years".
